When I started homeschooling I was completely unprepared. I like to call myself an unexpected homeschooler. Before we made the decision I really thought homeschooling was something that only weird, crazy people did. I mean, why would you want to take on the role of parent AND teacher! You must be crazy!
Everybody has a different reason for being a homeschooler. As for me, I was at the doctor’s office getting my son’s physical to start school. I was also filling out his paperwork for Kindergarten. I kept going over and over in my head how my husband would never get to see him because he works 6 days a week, 12 hour days, and the only day off being a school day. I couldn’t do that to our family.
Luckily, it is not only for crazy and weird people. I found an entire community of homeschooling families in my area and they accepted me with open arms. I spent the first year, which was kindergarten for my oldest, meeting people and trying to figure out what homeschooling really was.
